Spiritual Things Verses Earthly (Carnal) Things

Recently I had a spiritual opportunity stolen from me. The person who took it just saw it as a green Papaya so it had little value to anyone so why would anyone get upset about it being taken. I had cleared the land and tilled the soil. I had bought the seed and prepared the seed pot. I had planted it and watered it every day till it germinated. I had planted it and watched it grow. I was overjoyed when the ‘first fruits” on the first plant which I waited for.

What are this “First Fruits” which I treasured? “And I arranged for the First Fruits, Remember me, O my God, for GOOD!!” Nehemiah 13:31. They are a prayer for blessing after an acknowledgement that God has blessed us with harvest.

There are many things in this life which can be stolen which have small value to the thief but immense value to the victim. These are a few that spring to my mind from living two years in the Philippines and seeing people around me.

Shabu steals a life not just from the person but the person from all his family and friends. Their hopes and future are cut off, their line of issue is no more as they become consumed by the drug. Perhaps the President is right to humanely terminate their physical life by acknowledging their lingering death with kindness? Who knows what is right only God “for the President does not bear the sword in vain” Romans 13:4.

Children can have their future stolen by men who begat them with a woman and move on to begat children with other women. These children live with the stigma all their lives in blighted health, education, self-esteem and social standing.

Grandparents can have their grandchildren stolen in two ways either through abortion or through their son not making a family with the mother.

Thieves can break into a house and steal jewellery which may have good monetary value but it has much more sentimental value to the victim.

Virginity can be stolen or given away cheaply depriving the parents of the inestimable joy of presenting their child (male or female) to their partner pure.

Democracy can be stolen by gerrymandering or otherwise disenfranchising people who have a right to determine the government. It can also (like Esau’s birth right) be squandered by not voting. The USA is the world’s leader in both these two types of democracy theft.

Perhaps some thieves will repent and make restitution but some things which are stolen can never be replaced. Things like First fruits, virginity, aborted children, abandoned children and women or a bracelet given by a late husband to his widow casually stolen by a thief. Perhaps Zacchaeus was wise when he offered to repay 4 times to anyone who he had cheated Luke 19.

We should be very careful with our actions especially with this planet which God has carefully crafted not to steal is wealth.
